Midwifery is a practice of spiritual and physical support of the mother at birth

Birth is an event of significant meaning for the human being born, the mother giving birth, the family, and the society that they belong to.

That's why traditionally the holistic birth support of the mother was a practice of great value and importance throughout the times.

That's why archaic cultures treated midwives as the guides of the souls, and midwifery was really on the border with shamanism, witchery, and magic and included rituals of initiation. Midwife's figure was deeply connected with the "other world" - the realms of the souls where they dwell before and after their journey on this planet.

Later on, as Christianity was becoming stronger midwifery was connected to the spiritual world by the means of the nunnery as well. The understanding that the path of guidance through the portal of life plays a significant role in society and must be fulfilled by the person with high spiritual competency was still there.

What happened to the meaning and the scope of practice of a midwife nowadays? How she became a medical provider? A servant of the system but not the one for women and the community? How the knowledge and skills of only one level, the basic, the material, the physiological, and the body level only became enough to attend the birth of a human and the transformation of a woman to a mother?

How could we lose along the way the other, the greater part of the art of being there for a new life to emerge from the realms of the inner existence and the great unknown?

Even the word midwife lost its magic today. In so many places the Government owns it...

So people who understand these things have to go sideways to distinguish themselves from that meaning.

Birth keepers, birth witnesses, birth attendees... People who do not want to disturb the birth in favor of the guidelines written by some other people. They exist because there is a demand out there.

Awaken people are in the search of awakened people who can support them in their feeling that the birth of their children is sacred and if it has to be attended it should be someone who can not only assist the body but guide the souls.
